Bathing Suits for Every Body Type

Bathing Suit Season is here. Oh yeah!!

What, you’re not excited about that?

Okay, so no one really looks forward to parading around in a bathing suit — well, not after the age of 35, anyway. But most of us find ourselves at the pool or the beach and need to wear a bathing suit, so what’s a girl to do!?

Unfortunately you may have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince, but once you figure out what works for your body type, you can narrow down the choices.

Busty

If you are blessed in the chest area, bathing suit shopping can be a challenging task. Look for suits with wider straps and more coverage and support. Balance out the top with a ruffled bottom. A lot of brands make bathing suits that come in bra sizes up to DDD. Underwire is essential.

The Carmela One Piece Slender Suit from Lands’ End offers support and coverage in an attractive one piece style.

I have this Hot Wired Tankini from Title Nine. The wide straps offer support and lend proportion to a larger chest, while the cups are designed to lift, separate, support and cover up to a DD-cup.

Tummy

If you have a tummy, go for a higher waisted swim bottom such as this Retro High Waist Swimsuit Brief from Lands’ End.

Or try a top with shirring to help disguise a larger middle, such as this Athleta Solid Shirred Bra Cup Tankini from Athleta.

Hips

If you have fuller hips and thighs, select suits with detailing that draw the eye upwards, such as this BLEU by Rod Beattie ‘Hole In One’ One Piece at Nordstrom.

Or this BLEU Rod Beattie Halter Bikini Top with its retro-glam styling.

Make sure to stick to a fuller cut on the bottom, but an arched leg opening can be slimming.

When all else fails, get a great cover-up! I love this Athleta Riviera Hoodie from Athleta.

How cute is that!?

How about you? What is your biggest challenge when bathing suit shopping? What is your secret for finding a flattering suit that fits your figure?

Cute ideas! I think everyone has trouble finding a swimsuit that they feel comfortable in! I’m in the DD-DDD boat, so it really limits the options in most stores. I’ve had good luck ordering online!

  2. Love that Carmella suit! Great picks.

  3. I just rediscovered the one piece. Tankinis never stayed in place and I was tired of tugging them around!
