Drapey Sweater; Why Every Woman Should Have One (or five)

One of my favorite trends this winter is the drapey sweater. I have a few different styles and colors, and I wear them several times a week. They are just so comfortable, they are warm and cozy on those cold days, and they look great over skinny jeans, another trend that is becoming quite mainstream. They also are a great way to disguise the fact that you ate a few too many cookies over the holidays. WHAT? Oh, I know I’m not alone on that one!

The drapey sweater has been around for a few seasons so they are incredibly easy to find at any price point. Here are a few of my favorites.

I love this classic black hooded sweater. With minimal draping, it’s highly versatile. Here it is worn with two different looks.

The black one is great, but the my gray one is my favorite. With the longer length and asymmetrical hem, it’s super stylish while also being easy to wear.

Go for lightweight fabric to avoid adding bulk, and the general rule of thumb is to wear a drapey sweater with skinny jeans or slim pants. You can also do it with a pencil skirt, or a long slim skirt. You don’t want volume on the top and bottom, or you’ll look like a slob no matter how cute your drapey sweater is.

Here are a few drapey sweaters I have my eye on. I love the ribbing on the salmon-colored one. And I also don’t have a sweater with that rounded shape to the hem. I LIKEY! The “spindly striped” one is from Anthropologie . . . need I say more? The other two just look versatile and easy to wear.
